South Charleston Shooting: 81-year-old William Brock arrested in fatal shooting of 61-year-old Lo-Letha Hall

Police say a South Charleston, Ohio man has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of another man about a week ago. 81-year-old William Brock have been taken into custody for fatally shooting 61-year-old Lo-Letha Hall. According to investigators, the victim Lo-Letha was a black ride-share driver. The tragic incident happened outside William Brock’s home in South Charleston, Ohio, according to NBC News.

The suspect disclosed to investigators that he shot the victim because he thought him to be working with the scammers who contacted him earlier that day. Brock got a phone hoax on March 25th from a man posing as an officer at the local courtroom, the Guardian News reported. At the time of the shooting, Hall was an Uber employee who had driven to Brock’s house to pick up a package. Brock demanded to know which con artists Hall was collaborating with while brandishing a gun at her.

Brock also allegedly grabbed Hall’s phone and forcibly prevented her from leaving, according to the Springfield News-Sun. Hall had no idea what Brock was talking about during the terrifying event, Shultz stated that Hall “made no threats, assaults, or demands toward Brock, other than to inquire about the package she was sent to retrieve through the Uber App,” according to the police release.

The two disappear from the camera’s perspective. Then there’s what sounds like multiple gunshots. Hall is heard yelling for assistance. According to authorities, Brock shot Hall three times in all before contacting them. Hall later passed away following surgery at a nearby hospital. Brock said to the police that he shot Hall because he thought she was going to fetch a gun when she was heading to her car. When authorities concluded that Hall did not represent a threat to him and that Brock had neglected to call for help from the police during the pick-up, they placed him under arrest and charged him with murder, felonious assault, and abduction.

Brock secured a $200,000 bond on Wednesday, and while the police look into the event, he might be charged with more. Uber said that they had communicated with Hall’s family and were in communication with law officials in a statement. We are still sending our condolences to Lo-Letha’s family throughout this terrible event. Another instance of Black Americans being shot without cause is the shooting that occurred last month. It occurs over three months after 16-year-old Ralph Yarl, a Black adolescent, was shot in Missouri after ringing the incorrect doorbell by an older White man.
